Spring Rhododendron Bloom

This is our favorite time of the year! The beauty is short-lived but we love shooting the Spring Rhododendron flower blooms! For our Spring Rhododendron Photo Tour, we take you to the locations in the Blue Ridge Mountains where the blooms are at their peak and teach you how to best capture the beauty of the Rhododendrons. The locations range from the early blooms at Linville Gorge to the mid-season blooms found along the southern stretch of the Blue Ridge Parkway, to the late blooms found near Mt. Mitchell, Craggy Gardens, and of course, Roan Highlands. We keep a very close eye on what areas are at peak flower bloom and save you the leg work of finding the best spots.

The Spring Rhododendron Tours happen rain or shine. Some of the best images of these flowery scenes can be made immediately after an afternoon rain shower which are pretty common at that time of the year. Bring gear to protect your camera gear. You can buy a set of dry bags at Walmart for $7 and they work wonderfully.

These tours focus primarily on the Catawba Rhododendron blooms found at higher elevations. For the beginning of the bloom season, we seek the blooms found at various spots at Linville Gorge (May 5th – 20th) but do not offer specific tours for the Linville Gorge blooms. Will we take you there by request. For the more colorful, lush blooms of the Catawba Rhododendrons, we suggest you book your tour near the first week of June. There will be earlier Catawba blooms at lower elevations in late May, and late blooms at the highest elevations during the second and third week of June. These tours are likely to sell out so book yours today!

Pickup: Please note pickup is optional but encouraged! We are happy to pick you up from your location and return you at the conclusion of your tour. Please check Pickup during checkout if you’d like us to pick you up! We will call you following your completed booking to iron out the exact details!
